Simple Ways to Lower Your Fuel Expenditures
With gas prices forecasted to stay high for the remainder of 2021, you'll want to make sure you aren't letting fuel go to waste. By taking some easy gas-saving measures, you'll help to ensure that your car gets the best gas mileage possible. At Howard Automotive, our local mechanics can conduct any kind of maintenance that your vehicle needs to optimize fuel-efficiency.
Tips for Easily Improving Gas Mileage
While driving to work and back each day, there are a couple of simple ways you can make sure that you're not wasting fuel. For one, you should always drive with proper tire inflation. Tire pressure generally needs to be somewhere between 30 and 35 psi. You'll want to check your tires for their precise pressure specification and then inflate them accordingly. If you're driving with underinflated tires, your engine will have to use more power to make the soft rubber roll down the road, causing fuel-efficiency to worsen. Another easy way to prevent fuel waste is to always make sure your gas cap is tightly fastened after you fill up. When your gas cap isn't tight, fuel can evaporate before you get the opportunity to use it.
When you visit us at the shop, we can complete maintenance tasks that will allow your car to get better gas mileage. Air filters should be changed out every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. This will allow the right amount of air to reach the combustion chamber, which will prevent your engine from burning additional fuel to compensate for an air shortage. Fuel filters should be replaced every 20,000 to 30,000 miles so that pollutants don't hurt fuel-efficiency and performance. At our shop, we can also complete other tasks that will help your vehicle get the most MPGs possible, such as spark plug replacement and full-service oil changes.
