Signs of Suspension Failure that We Can Fix at our Kansas City Auto Shop
For your vehicle to drive smoothly and safely, it's important that its suspension is in strong condition. When you first suspect that suspension trouble is brewing, you'll want to get to the shop for an inspection. At Howard Automotive, our local mechanics are experts at identifying and repairing suspension issues.
Common Signs of Suspension Trouble
Symptoms of suspension trouble may become apparent when you hit your brakes. With a bad suspension, it can take your vehicle noticeably more time to arrive at a full stop after you've started braking. Also, suspension failure can make it seem like your car is nose-diving when your brakes are engaged.
A classic sign of suspension trouble is that your car becomes excessively bouncy whenever you hit any little rough patch in the road. If you hear clunking sounds when you go over bumps, then you may have a bad spring. With a damaged spring, your vehicle may sit lower in the affected corner.
If you're starting to suspect that there's an issue with your suspension, you can do a quick test that'll help you gain a better understanding. With your vehicle securely parked, press down hard on the front end and rock it twice. Then let go, walk around to the rear and rock it twice as well. When you let go of the rear end, the car shouldn't rock on its own more than two or three times. But if it does, then you could have a suspension problem.
It's important to be mindful of a couple other symptoms of suspension failure. If there's oil on your shocks, then they're likely leaking fluid, which will probably mean they're due for replacement. Also, if it feels as if your car is drifting when you take sharp turns, then you may be dealing with a suspension problem.
